Bonnie Sandy sterling

INTRODUCING BSs...

Creativity comes naturally to Bonnie Sandy Sterling. Her current body of designs was started in 1996 when she came across a traditional Tibetan female garment; this led to the winged series and exploration of the handkerchief silhouette. Her background as an artist led her to explore garment silhouettes as “canvas’. Comparable to soft sculpture, she has amassed a vast collection of original silhouettes and techniques! “Free Forms” and “animated suspension,” are the results of her involvement with Brooklyn’s jazz scene. Her pieces have a strong, recognizable voice much like the designer. Color, flow and ease, heavily influenced by nature, indicative of her Caribbean heritage! There is strong rhythm, and double entendre; most of her pieces serve double duty! MS Sandy-Sterling is an artist whose primary media has been Fiber, as practiced in the discipline of fashion design business today however you will find her heavily involved with the exploration, development, marketing and organizing of Brooklyn’s artistic micro entrepreneurs!

About 20 Yrs ago Ms Sandy-Sterling became active in searching for solutions that helped independent garment designers and manufacturers! She pursued her own creative abilities, studying fashion design @ New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology! Since then she has trained and apprenticed with some of the most skilled craftspeople in the apparel design field. Between developing her own fashion philosophy silhouettes and artistic statement, she sort answers to the questions unique to artistic entrepreneurs. A former art teacher, she views the creative arts as vehicles for giving voice, and just as equally, as means towards self sufficiency and micro enterprise! She subsequently created the Artist Mosaic Project, exploring the development, marketing and organizing of some of Brooklyn’s artistic micro entrepreneurs, later developing products and services that facilitated artistic expression!
